Old Friend,
You have been a part of my life for 45 years. Your presence in my life, as I grew from a child to a teen, a college student and beyond---through my numerous moves (Chicago, Austin, Georgetown, Fort Smith, Dallas)---has remained a constant.
The many hours we spent together, especially during my childhood and adolescence, were hours of much pleasure and relaxation. You brought out things in me which nothing else could. You challenged me. You were there, patiently waiting for me, no matter my mood. Our relationship was far deeper than words. It was a relationship of growing emotion, of maturing self-expression, of comfort.
In recent years we have grown distant, as I have neglected you. The busyness of my family life and my career have kept me from spending quality time with you. I have felt somewhat guilty for the neglect, and I know you deserve better than this from me.
So for now, dear old piano friend, I give you to another family who will love you, spend time playing you, and care for you better than I have. I will always love you, and the beautiful music we made together!
