Yesterday I took two projects off the loom! They are beautiful, but I was ready to do something different. These were the most intricate weaving I have done so far, a project called "huck lace" with 24 thin yarns per inch. I keep a record of my projects, and this one had been a work in progress for five months! Five months! There were probably 8 weeks during these past five months when I didn't even touch my loom, but this project was still an exercise in patience and waiting. I learned a lot on the second project, because five times I made mistakes which required me analyzing the intricate pattern and figuring out where I left off. This took a bit of trial and error and also some problem solving with drawings and graphs. Where in the 18 step sequence do I pick up again?
The biggest growth for me was learning the waiting. The sustained patience and interest, the acceptance of time passing without much progress. The delight in small increments, little victories. These are the very good lessons about weaving that you would never know until you do it.
I am also looking forward to wearing that luxurious scarf.
