We have had a terrible summer here in Dallas, weather-wise. I know it's worse in the rest of the state. I have actually been surprised people have not been nastier, given the heat and the drought and the unrelenting sun.
I did some gardening early Saturday morning, mostly cleaning up dead stuff. I did not pull anything up by the roots. It's taken me a long time, but I finally figured out that if I leave the roots, more often than not the dead will come to life again, come the spring and the rains and in God's good time.
It is a good thing to remember this when things seem devoid of life. God's good time has a way of bringing life back where there seemed to be nothing but death.
