"GOD" with a capital "G"

I was sending a text to my husband on my Blackberry this morning (note the capital "B"). I wanted to let him know it was raining here at the house. We have had a long and terrible hot and dry summer, entirely devoid of rain. I said, simply, "It's raining here. Thank God."

The text message has some auto features on the Blackberry. Automatic grammar correction, automatic capitalization for the word "I" and even some select proper nouns. I checked to see whether it automatically capitalized "God". It didn't.

When did we lose the idea of God with a capital "G"?
